Taxi

taxi Taxis are a common and convenient mode of transportation in Morocco, widely used by both locals and tourists. They are a practical option for getting around cities, traveling between towns, and reaching destinations that may not be easily accessible by public transportation. This guide provides an overview of using taxis in Morocco, including how to use them, the different types of taxis, and fare information.

Brief Overview

Taxis in Morocco come in two main types: Petit Taxis and Grand Taxis. Each type serves different purposes and operates under different rules. Petit Taxis are typically used for short trips within cities, while Grand Taxis are used for longer distances and intercity travel. Both types of taxis are widely available and relatively affordable.

How to Use Taxis

  • Street Hailing: In most Moroccan cities, you can easily hail a taxi by waving your hand as one approaches. Petit Taxis are often found circulating in busy areas and near tourist attractions.
  • Taxi Stands: In some locations, taxis queue at designated taxi stands, especially near train stations, bus terminals, and popular landmarks.
  • Phone or App: In major cities like Casablanca, Marrakech, and Rabat, you can also book taxis via phone or mobile apps like Careem.

  3. Safety: Ensure the taxi has official markings and a meter (for Petit Taxis). Be cautious and use reputable services.
  4. Know Your Route: Familiarize yourself with the route to avoid being overcharged. Using a GPS app can be helpful.
  5. Language: While many taxi drivers speak some French, knowing a few basic Arabic phrases can be useful for communication.
